The book I used in the 70’s to travel Europe was “Europe on 10 Dollars a Day”, written by George McDonald and Arthur Frommer. You can still get the  same book today but the title has changed, it is now, “Europe on 85 Dollars a Day”, 46thEdition, 2004. You can find a list of them on Amazon, Frommer’s Guides, all with different locations.

Europe on Dollars a Day, 1994 (Frommer’s Budget TravelGuide) [Paperback] George McDonald (Author), Arthur Frommer (Author)

In reading one of the reviews I understand this might not be for the budget
traveler, but more middle of the road. However, if you are a budget traveler, or
don't mind backbacking or staying in hostels, I found a new book that
might be more to your liking entitled; "Europe on a shoestring" by Lonely
Planet. This book sounds like it might be good for the budget travelers.

Europe (Shoestring Travel Guide) [Paperback] Tom Masters (Author)

Getting back to our trip, we used our book like a bible, it was so
informative.  Our first visit to Europe and backpacking,we were armed with this
book and felt we had a friend and tourguide along with us.  It was a sense
of security of sorts because it was our road map to getting around all of
Europe. The book highlighted all the wonderful places to see, complete with maps and directions as well as prices.  Everything from A to Z, was at our finger tips!  With this guide we never felt lost, and were never at a loss to find just the right place to visit, eat or stay.  I can honestly say that not one place we visited, was a  disappointment, all lived up to the reviews they were given.

Check out my tweets for more budget links to deals.  Has anyone used
these books to travel? Would love to hear what you think?
